PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal)

A layer of liquid crystal droplets suspended in a polymer matrix is laminated between two sheets of glass. When power is off, the crystals scatter randomly and the glass appears white and opaque. When power is applied, the crystals align and the glass becomes fully transparent. Switching happens in approximately one second.

PDLC glass requires a continuous low-voltage power supply to stay transparent, meaning a power cut automatically returns the glass to its private opaque state.

Electrochromic (EC) Glass

Electrochromic glass uses a conductive oxide coating that gradually changes from clear to deep blue or grey when a low electrical voltage is applied. Unlike PDLC, the tint level is variable and controllable across multiple opacity levels. The transition usually takes between one and three minutes.

Once the desired tint is achieved, the glass maintains that state without continuous power, making it an energy-efficient solution for large façade applications.

SPD (Suspended Particle Device)

SPD glass contains light-absorbing particles suspended inside a film layer. These particles align when voltage is applied, allowing more light through, and scatter when power is removed, creating a tinted appearance. SPD provides variable tint control with faster response than electrochromic glass.
